What Happened to You
by Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Bruce Perry
March 18, 2022
In this collaboration, Oprah and Dr. Perry attempt to change the narrative surrounding treating survivors from, "what's wrong with you," to "what happened to you." Dr. Perry believes most trauma survivors are a reflection of adverse childhood experiences and that the best healing comes when those experiences are understood and considered. The format of the book is easy to read and the flow is a back and forth between Oprah's personal experiences and Dr. Perry's explanations.
Untamed
by Glennon Doyle
October, 19, 2021
While Untamed isn't categorized as a book written on trauma or parenting, it provides readers with a plethora of empowering messages on healing, raising healthy kids and how to be your best self through adversity. I am choosing it as my first B&B Book club pick because of the challenge Glennon sets forth to all of her readers - to get in touch with our wildest and truest selves, even when it's hard, uncomfortable and inconvenient.
Getting Past Your Past
by Francine Shapiro
November 16, 2021
As the pioneer of EMDR therapy, Francine Shapiro provides readers with the history of and everyday use for EMDR. She illustrates plenty of examples of traumas of all sorts, from phobias to childhood abuse, and how EMDR can play a role in healing. Overall, the book offers readers the opportunity to feel understood in their trauma, while providing usable coping and healing techniques.

April 21, 2021
This is becoming a must-read for survivors of trauma, having been recommended highly by many different types of therapists. In the book, we learn about the long-lasting physical effects trauma has on our bodies and how sometimes our bodies "know" about our trauma before our minds.
